Munchies
Munchies is the multilingual online matcha store that Niro Digital built for a Ljubljana tea shop in 2025: a headless Shopify storefront on Next.js with a custom gifting app, AI support chat, and the Meta ads that bring the customers.

The constraint
Munchies sold matcha over the counter in one Ljubljana shop and nowhere else. It had regulars in the city but no store online, so nobody outside walking distance could buy, and matcha needs explaining: most first-time buyers don't know the grades or how to whisk it. A stock Shopify theme would have taken the orders but not carried the brand. So we built a headless storefront on Next.js that reads catalogue, blog, policies and cart straight from Shopify's Storefront API and hands off to Shopify's hosted checkout. It ships in four locales, English, Slovene, Italian and Croatian, routed by country. Shopify's built-in Buy-X-Get-Y cannot express quantity tiers, so we wrote our own Shopify app, Obdarjevalec, to enforce the free gifts inside the real cart. We run the Meta ads that bring buyers to it.

The system

- //01Headless Shopify storefront on Next.js 16, live catalogue price in the hero

- //02Shop page with category filters and six sort keys over the live catalogue

- //03Product page with gallery, star rating and 1, 3 and 5-bag bundle pricing

- //04Free-gift tiers on the product page: three gifts unlocked at three bags

- //05Cart drawer adds the free gifts at €0 and nudges the next tier

- //06Hand-off to Shopify's hosted checkout, branded, with Shop Pay and Google Pay

- //07Four locales, English, Italian, Croatian and Slovene, routed by country

- //08The same page fully translated: navigation, copy, calls to action, currency

- //09Matcha blog rendered from Shopify articles, translated with the rest of the store

- //10An AI assistant answering in the visitor's language from the live catalogue

- //11A categorised FAQ, the same knowledge base the assistant is grounded in

- //12The whole store on a phone: burger nav, cart badge, floating chat button
What changed
- //01The shop sells outside Ljubljana, from one Shopify back office, with no theme-editor ceiling.
- //02Lighthouse 90+ on performance, accessibility and SEO, WCAG AA throughout.
- //03Catalogue, blog and orders sync from Shopify through webhooks, no double entry.
- //04Meta ads on Facebook and Instagram bring buyers who never saw the shop.
What we'd do differently
We can't show you a revenue figure for Munchies. The store launched in 2025 and the ads are still running, so the numbers on this page are technical: Lighthouse scores and the languages we shipped, not sales. If you want the campaign figures, ask on the call. The headless storefront was later ported one-to-one to a native Shopify theme, so the same design now runs inside Shopify itself. What we'd do differently: the free-gift rules live in two places, previewed by the storefront and enforced by our Shopify app, because Shopify's own Buy-X-Get-Y could not express the tiers. We would author them in one place first and let the storefront read from it.
